How High Is Up?

“How high is up?” was a favorite expression of an old boss of mine from North Texas, up around the Panhandle. He was the advertising manager for a very backward oilfield services company. (You do not even want to know.)

He was also pretty cynical. “How high is up?” typified to him not only the meaningless, unanswerable questions that clients often ask, but also dumb questions in general. I’m sure you’ve heard a few of those.

Even though it is less colorful than some, it is still one of my favorite Texas expressions. I think it’s one that all of us could use at some time or another. And now you can.
